On Tuesday, May 9th, the City Planning Commission will vote on Zoning Docket 14/23 to define and create standards for Affordable Homeownership Development within the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance (CZO). This would fall under voluntary inclusionary zoning districts and streamline a process for developers to more easily build affordable homeownership opportunities by right. GNOHA and HousingNOLA are calling on residents to show their support for this initiative by submitting a public comment at this Tuesday’s hearing.
WHAT: City Planning Commission Public Hearing
WHEN: Tuesday, May 9, at 1:30 PM
WHERE: Council Chambers at City Hall (1300 Perdido Street, New Orleans, 70112)
Sample Comments:
- Housing advocates have been calling for the city to include homeownership within the Smart Housing Mix for years. New Orleans should be doing all it can to alleviate barriers for developers to create affordable homeownership opportunities for its residents. #PutHousingFirst and vote ‘Yes’ on ZD 14/23!
- We cannot have a repeat of the Brown’s Dairy site by losing more crucial homeownership opportunities to large-scale STR operators. The city should be making it easier for affordable housing developers to build without fear of their projects becoming unviable. #PutHousingFirst and pass ZD 14/23!
- Our city is in desperate need of more single-family and two-family homeownership opportunities. ZD 14/23 would assist in pulling back red tape for small-scale developers and allow New Orleans to spread its affordable housing footprint. #PutHousingFirst and support ZD 14/23!
