Thank you supporters of the Smart Housing Mix for coming out and showing up! We really appreciate it! The City Planning Commissioners approved establishing a mandatory inclusionary zoning overlay district and creating a mandatory inclusionary zoning planned development classification. However, they didn’t approve creating a new mandatory inclusionary base zoning district. We had a diverse coalition of community members speak in support of the Smart Housing Mix, and the CPC was still hesitant to support the Smart Housing Mix. We need to let the City Council know that New Orleans needs to #FixtheMix. We can not dumb down the Smart Housing Mix and we need to let the Council hear it. The City Council needs to create a motion that requires and mandates private developers create affordable housing when they build new projects. The New Orleans City Council will vote on the ordinance in early 2019 to make text amendments to the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, which will include the Smart Housing Mix/Inclusionary Zoning.
We will continue to provide updates and call to actions as important dates come up. In the meantime and in advance of the Council vote, you can still contact and let them know how important the Smart Housing Mix is to you! Contact information below:
